About the Pittsburgh Steelers

Welcome fellow Steelers fan!

As you know, finding great Steelers Tickets is probably the hardest part of being a Steelers supporter, but here you will find information on how to obtain 'hard to get' and 'sold out' tickets.

Previous Seasons

The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2010 season with high hopes. This will be the franchises 78th season in the National Football League and team management is looking to take the team back to the Super Bowl. The franchise made some changes to the front office and the coaching staff as they dismissed offensive line coach Larry Zierlein and special teams coordinator Bob Ligahesky. Also, QB coach Ken Anderson announced his retirement. Defensive quality coach Lou Spanos left the organization to become the linebackers coach for the Washington Redskins.

The franchise has the 18th overall pick in the upcoming draft but their problems are many. Season ticket holders are surely upset with the two cases pending against their stars. The team may need to think about looking for a quality QB if things go sour for Ben Roethlisberger and the pending assault case against him as well as the one for WR Santonio Holmes. These could prove problematic as the team is in desperate needs of a running back after neglecting to take care of RB Willie Parker who signed with the Washington Redskins. Add to that the needs of a solid CB, a new LB to groom to replace Farrior and a new defensive line that sports three starters in their 30’s.

The defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers look to do what only a handful of teams have ever been able to do, repeat as champions. The last team to do it was the 1999 Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII.

The 2008 squad remains mostly intact for 09 and a number of upcoming free agents were resigned to the team including a six-year $51.175 million contract for the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the year James Harrison.  Look for the Steelers to debunk those polls and pundits that say they cannot repeat.

In the 2007-08 season the fans looking to buy Steelers tickets can expect their team to fly under the radar, but still play great football. All the elements of their 2005 Super Bowl win are there. The transition from Bill Cowher to Mike Tomlin appears smooth, for now. Yes, they struggled a bit last year, but that can be chalked to an NFL win hangover. Their 6-2 finish proves that Pittsburgh continues to play great football - and their hard work with little showboating wins titles. Expect this underdog to go far into the division this season.

The 2005-2006 Pittsburgh Steelers defense added another year to its storied history, ranking first in the AFC for fewest yards allowed to opposing teams. The Steelers’ offense struggled during the first games of the season with the absence of young quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but the passer’s return to the field has helped push the Steelers into the playoffs. This trip to the postseason marks the tenth appearance in head coach Bill Cowher’s 14 seasons in the Steel City.

Fans in Pittsburgh are proud of one of the longest-running winning traditions in professional football. The Steelers have been a part of the National Football League since 1933. Originally known as the Pirates, Pittsburgh’s football team did not enjoy a great deal of success until the 1970s. However, since the birth of the infamous “Steel Curtain” under head coach Chuck Knoll at the beginning of the decade, the Steelers have been to the playoffs 22 times and won four Super Bowls. Led by defensive tackle “Mean” Joe Greene, the Steelers became the NFL’s premier defensive team.

Defense was not the only aspect of the Steelers’ era of dominance; the team’s offense was one of the finest in the NFL, too. Quarterback Terry Bradshaw, running back Franco Harris, and wide receiver Lynn Swann have all been inducted into the Hall of Fame for their contributions to the Pittsburgh offense. These three members of the team retired near the beginning of the 1980s, but Knoll continued coaching through 1992 and guided the Steelers to four playoff appearances during the decade. However, any coach would have struggled to duplicate Pittsburgh’s success of the previous 10 years.

Since Knoll’s retirement, the Steelers have looked to the leadership of head coach Bill Cowher. His coaching has helped the Steelers’ defense remain an overpowering NFL force, and the Steelers have only suffered through three losing seasons during Cowher’s 14-year reign. However, Cowher has yet to coach the team to another Super Bowl victory with the only recent championship appearance ending in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX. Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field offers a home to some of the league’s most notorious fans whose consistent braving of late-season freezing temperatures to cheer for their beloved team makes Steelers football tickets especially difficult to obtain.

As the Steelers head to the playoffs, the team will look for scoring fr

m Jerome Bettis, the team’s star running back. Most fans expect Bettis to retire following the end of the season, and he will finish his career in fifth place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. If wide receivers Antwaan Randle El and Hines Ward can continue to aid Roethlisberger’s passing game, the Steelers could add another productive postseason to their already impressive resume.

Tommy Maddox was the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2003, but an injury forced rookie Ben Roethlisberger to step in and lead the team early in the 2004 season. Roethlisberger led the team to an amazing run that ended with the team finishing 15-1 in the regular season and ending the Patriots run of 21 straight victories. The Steelers had home field advantage through the AFC and hosted the Patriots at Heinz Field but didn’t play their best game in a demoralizing loss. Roethlisberger still managed to finish the season with better than 2,600 passing yards and 17 touchdowns. He had a completion percentage near the top of the league at better than 66% and was also one of the league leaders in QB rating at 98.1. He’ll be looking to avoid a sophomore slump in 2005 but will have plenty of help around him. The running back position had all the potential to be a two-headed monster but when Duce Staley went down with an injury, the team wasn’t certain Jerome Bettis could step in and lead like in past years. Bettis put all fears away as he finished with 13 touchdowns and nearly 1,000 yards. The receiver position will still be led by Hines Ward along with Antwaan Randle El but the loss of Plaxico Burress could mean tougher coverage on Ward throughout the year.

The defense has always been a priority in the Steelers organization and 2004 was exactly the same as they finished with the best defense in the league. James Farrior led a trio of Steelers who finished with better than 90 tackles and led the team with Joey Porter with seven tackles for loss. Aaron Smith led the team with eight sacks while Porter had seven and Clark Haggans finished with six. The team forced 16 fumbles and Troy Polamalu led the team with five interceptions while Deshea Townsend and James Farrior each returned one of their four interceptions for touchdowns.

In the draft, the Steelers turned the 30th overall pick into a reliable tight end in the form of Heath Miller. Miller holds every tight end receiving record at the University of Virginia but injury problems dropped him down the board to Pittsburgh. The team also picked up Fred Gibson, a wide receiver out of Georgia, who had first round potential but couldn’t seem to put everything together in his time at the school. The big pick for the Steelers might have been in the second round when they followed their defensive trend and drafted Florida State cornerback Bryant McFadden. McFadden will likely start at some point this season and could be on the field at crucial moments if a member of the secondary is injured.

The Steelers are looking to come back after last year’s up and down season. Big Ben Roethlisberger needs to recoup and go back to that 2005 greatness. That is unlikely to happen, what with a new playbook to learn and new offensive coordinator. Willie Parker took a beating last season, and will continue fighting into this one. Pittsburgh has a great lead blocker in Dan Kreider, and Santonio Holmes will continue to improve his rookie career. Steelers Ticket buyers can expect a lot of depth from their team, more runs by Parker – and Big Ben will definitely be looking for Heath Miller, who will continue to be a monster in the TE position.

Coming off the2007 season as the AFC North Champions, the Steelers looked to improve on their 10-6 record and did so in spectacular fashion as they tore through the league with a 12-4 record emerged as the Super Bowl Champions. Head Coach Mike Tomlin won the Motorola Coach of the Year and rookie Patrick Bailey won Rookie of the Year. Three players made it to the Pro Bowl; James Farrior, James Harrison and Troy Polamalu. In the draft, they picked up Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall, Texas Receiver Limas Sweed and Oregon QB Dennis Dixon.

The team finished the season at 12-4 and in first place in the tough AFC North and coach Mike Tomlin was voted the Motorola Coach of the Year. In the playoffs, the Steelers went through the San Diego Chargers, the Baltimore Ravens and finally the Arizona Cardinals to become Super Bowl XLIII Champions.
